Australian public radio station and home to arguably the coolest people in the country, Triple J, is taking control of Apple Music's Beats 1 radio station throughout November.
Some of Triple J's biggest names, including Zan Rowe and breakfast show duo Matt and Alex, will be hosting a show each Saturday in November on Beats 1, putting Australian music on a station that's broadcast 24/7 in 100 countries across the world, according to Triple J
The takeover is part of a residency segment, and is the second of its kind for Beats 1.
Beats 1 Director Zane Lowe, of former BBC Radio 1 fame, hands over the reigns to people he believes know what they're doing in an attempt to expose listeners to something they may not have heard before. The first residency in October was held by N.A.A.F.I, a record label from Mexico city.
Triple J's first show will see Zan Rowe and Dom Alessio bring Australian music to the world, spinning Tkay Maidza, DMA's and the winner of the 2015 Unearthed High competition — a nationwide search for the best artists still in high school — Mosquito Coast.
The second show, hosted by Matt Okine and Alex Dyson, will celebrate the stellar year had by Courtney Barnett. The third week will look at rising female stars, hosted by Lewi McKirdy and Linda Marigliano, and the residency will round out with Veronica Milsom and Lewis Hobba, who will premiere something new and special from Chet Faker, according to Triple J.
The residency coincides with Triple J's Ausmusic month, held in November and content director for the station, Ollie Ward, said it's an amazing way for Australian music to be put on the world stage.
"Triple J is all about supporting the best new Australian music, so our residency on the Beats 1 Takeover in November is an awesome opportunity for the all-Australian acts we'll be playing to build their international fan base," he said.
